A total of 57,000 candidates are expected to be screened for the 4,500 spaces available for the 2010/2011 academic session in the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.
The spokesman of the polytechnic, Mr. Mustapha Oshiobugie, who gave the information, said the spaces were for candidates who chose the institution as their most preferred, more preferred and preferred school.
Oshiobugie told the News Agency of Nigeria in Auchi on Monday that the post-UME screening exercise would hold between August 25 and 27.
He also said that the figure was 50 per cent more than the number screened by the polytechnic in the 2009/2010 session.
Oshiobugie said that only candidates who scored 180 and above in the matriculation examination were eligible to participate in the exercise.
NAN reported that more than 1.3 million candidates had applied to study various courses in the country‘s tertiary institutions of learning for the 2010/2011 session.
According to JAMB, only 550,000 admission spaces are available for candidates nationwide.
