One of the problems of the developing world is that of teleguided elections, the UNADVice-Chancellor, Prof Dipo Kolawole, has observed.
Addressing the newly elected Students Union executives of the institution at the Odua Hall on Thursday last week, Kolawole emphasised that elections in the institutions of learning or that of a country should not be tele-guided to have a free and fair contest.
He said this was the reason he refused to interfere in the election of the students leaders recently despite the avalanche of negative reports against most of the contestants.
Kolawole, while announcing that a new saloon car would be given to the leaders, warned that he would not hesitate to rusticate erring students, particularly those who violate their matriculation oath.
The VC told the new leaders to join hands with the management in building a university that would have no rival in Nigeria.
In his speech, the President of the students union, Mr. Kehinde Okunuga, pledged to make sure that UNAD students remain one of the best behaved and that dialogue would be used as a tool of resolving issues.
He praised the VC for his positive leadership qualities adding: "If you had been the Vice-Chancellor for the past five years, UNAD would have been the best university in Africa."
